Understanding Traditional Chinese Medicine

Chinese traditional medicine dates back thousands of years. The foundation of TMC is the idea that qi, or life force, travels through the body's meridians, or channels, maintaining equilibrium in one's physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual aspects. The goal of TCM in Rochor, is to bring the body's yin and yang, which are naturally antagonistic energies that can obstruct qi and result in illness, back into balance and harmony.

TMC versus Western

Western medicine is based on the scientific approach; it is very logical and concrete, with a primary focus on illness treatment. The following are the main tenets of Western medical practice:

investigation and assessment of the physical body and its manifestations

a clinically validated diagnosis and treatment plan based on science and evidence

As a human right that needs to be preserved and promoted, health

Acupuncture in Rochor addresses the patient holistically and is not centered on science.

The use of acupuncture

Through the use of tiny needles inserted through the skin into "qi" (energy) sites located all over the body, acupuncturists activate particular areas on the body. Research indicates that acupuncture influences the brain regions involved in pain processing and triggers the body's natural painkiller production; yet, some studies indicate that acupuncture, whether real or fake, works just as well, suggesting a placebo effect. However, the results of multiple studies indicate that genuine acupuncture may be beneficial in relieving chronic pain, including low back pain, neck discomfort, and osteoarthritis/knee pain.
